St Thomas of Canterbury, Dodbrooke

Church Street Dodbrooke Kingsbridge
01548 714323

We welcome you to the church - a place of welcome, worship and prayer over many centuries. The building has stood in the midst of, and served the community, through times of joy and times of sorrow, in all the changing seasons of life. It is  built on the foundation of faith in Jesus Christ - whose love is a constant - the same, yesterday today and forever. The faith expressed in the living church of Christ - the people.

If you are interested in finding out more about what we do - please do take a look at our News and Notices.

If you would like to find out about the building and its historic and aesthetic interest then please read on:

The earliest parts of the church date back to the 15th century with much restoration carried out during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The building is in stone, neatly dressed off and is complete with a square bell tower with six bells (active tower). Within the church is the nave and two side aisles leading up to a magnificent wooden rood screen most of which is contemporary with the church building. The High Altar is highly decorated and is reputed to be made of oak. The reredos in the Lady Chapel is based upon the Van Eych brothers magnificent altarpiece currently on display in Ghent Cathedral entitled "The Adoration of the Lamb". Also within the body of the church is the 12th century Norman font currently sited in front of the clergy vestry and overlooked by a beautiful stained glass window.
